Exam Information

The final examination is on Friday, April 16, from 3-6 PM in C258 ESC, our regular cramped, hot, and uncomfortable classroom. It will be cumulative, which means that it will contain problems like those on the exams during the semester. It will also have several short essay questions on qualitative ideas in the course. This means that a quick re-reading of the book (minus the equations and technical asides) is a good idea, so that you understand the general flow of ideas, and especially how the different chapters relate to each other. This includes the little booklet on time-dependent circuits. You may also be wondering what I could possibly ask you about 4-vector and 4-tensor material at the very end of the book. There will be one problem on the final in which you will be asked to evaluate one of the tensor differential expressions to see if it gives the usual 3-vector + time derivative answer.

There will be a review session on Thursday at 9:30 AM in C247 ESC. The final will be made up by then, so I will not be proposing problems and working them; it's your job to propose the problems. I will, however, answer, in an essentially non-evasive and mostly straightforward manner, nearly any question, even if it very close to one on the final (unless it is, in my judgement, too close, in which case I reserve the right to be less than crystal clear and not to volunteer information, without, of course, actually lying.)

A copy of last year's final will be in the solution book in the office and pinned to the corkstrip by my door.
